Gdynia is a city with county rights in northern Poland, in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, located on the Baltic Sea, on the Gdańsk Coast and the East Pomeranian Lake District. It is part of the Tricity (together with Gdańsk and Sopot). It is one of the cities of the Gdańsk agglomeration. Gdynia obtained city rights on February 10, 1926. The impetus for the city's development was the construction of a port, which was created to provide Poland with access to sea routes and a naval base due to the uncertain situation in the Free City of Gdańsk. The rapid influx of people and the dynamic development of the port meant that within a dozen or so years after being granted city rights, Gdynia transformed from a fishing village into a city inhabited by 127,000 people. people (1939).
