Zakopane is the largest urban center in the immediate vicinity of the Tatra Mountains, a large winter sports center, for a long time informally known as the winter capital of Poland. There is also a significant part of the Tatra National Park (from the Sucha Woda Valley to the Mała Łąka Valley) within the city's administrative borders. The number of tourists visiting the entire Tatra Mountains is estimated at around 2-3 million annually.
