Piechowice - a town and commune located in Silesia (Lower Silesia), in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in the Jelenia Góra district.
In the years 1945-54 it was the seat of the rural commune of Piechowice. In the years 1975-1998 the town administratively belonged to the Jelenia Góra Voivodeship.
The town lies on the Kamienna, a small river of the Odra basin, a tributary of the Bóbr and a tributary flowing into it in Piechowice - the Mała Kamienna.
Piechowice includes parts of the towns (some have the status of a housing estate): Górzyniec, Michałowice, Pakoszów, Piastów. In the years 1976-1997, Jagniątków was also a district of Piechowice, annexed on January 1, 1998 to the neighboring Jelenia Góra. The town is located at an altitude of 360-480 m above sea level, and the administrative border reaches up to 1509 m above sea level, where the second highest peak of the Karkonosze is located - Wielki Szyszak. The commune borders the communes of Jelenia Góra, Stara Kamienica, Szklarska Poręba and the Czech Republic (through the peaks of the Karkonosze). There are many PTTK tourist trails and bicycle paths running through the commune. The Szklarki Waterfall and Śnieżne Kotły are located within the city limits. In the central part of the city at ul. Żymierski is home to a 700-year-old yew protected as a natural monument. On the border of the city there is also the Krokusy Nature Reserve in Górzyniec, established in 1962 to preserve for the purposes of science and education, probably a natural site of saffron (Crocus L.) - known already in 1811. The reserve protects an isolated, the only site of this species in Poland outside the Tatra Mountains and their foreland. Monuments in the city include: a church in Piastów from the 14th century, a palace complex in Pakoszów from the 18th century (currently under renovation) and the Uroczysko holiday resort in Michałowice - a former Luftwaffe sanatorium.
