Krosno - a city in south-eastern Poland, in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, at the mouth of the Lubatówka stream to the Wisłok, in the area of the Jasło-Krosno Basin, which is part of the Central Beskid Foothills, referred to as the Low Beskids. Krosno was referred to as "parva Cracovia" - or "little Kraków", because the Krosno Market Square with its Renaissance Cloth Hall was associated with Kraków's Old Town, and also because of the city's high level of intellectual life. The purposefulness of the comparison to Kraków is evidenced by the inclusion of a view of Krosno in a copperplate by Georg Braun (1541-1622) and Franz Hogenberg (ca. 1535-1590), in the work Civitates orbis terrarum (Cities of the World published in 1617 in Cologne), in the company of: Kraków, Poznań, Warsaw, Zamość, or in the work: Andreas Cellarius (1596-1665) from 1659 "Regni Poloniae Magnique Ducatus Lithuanie Novissima Descriptio", published in Amsterdam.
