Zielona Góra is a city with county rights in western Poland, the seat of the provincial government, the Lubusz Voivodeship Board and the Lubusz Voivodeship Assembly, as well as their subordinate units, the bishop of the Zielona Góra-Gorzów Diocese, the starosta of Zielona Góra County, and the authorities of the Zielona Góra rural commune. Together with Sulechów and Nowa Sól, it forms the so-called Lubusz Tricity.
Zielona Góra is located in western Poland, on the slopes of the Oder River valley, where it intersects the hill range known as the Zielona Góra Rampart. Geographically, it is located in the subprovince of the Southern Baltic Lake District. To the northwest, the city borders the Płotowska Basin and to the northeast, the Chynowska Basin. Historically and culturally, the town is part of Lower Silesia (lying on its northern edge). From 1950 to 1998, the city was the capital of the Zielona Góra Voivodeship.
