Ciechocinek – a town and commune in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, located in the Kujawy region, in the Aleksandrów County. From 1975 to 1998, the city administratively belonged to the Włocławek Voivodeship. It is located in the Toruń Basin, in the broad Vistula River valley, on the river's left bank. Ciechocinek is a spa town. Virtually no industry exists within the town, but instead houses spa hospitals, sanatoriums, a preventorium, recreation centers (holiday and tourist), natural medicine facilities, a mineral water pump room, hotels, restaurants, and a saltworks. The spa area is rich in greenery, with parks, squares, flowerbeds, and floral carpets. Numerous patients and tourists visit every year (52,000 in 1980, 85,000 in 1987). The basis for its development is the medicinal waters: chloride-sodium, bromide, iodide, ferrous, and boric, which originate from the area's numerous brine springs. Diseases of the musculoskeletal system, rheumatic diseases, orthopedic and traumatic diseases, gynecological diseases, respiratory, nervous, and circulatory systems are treated here. A wide range of treatments are available, including brine, iodine-bromine, and sulfur baths, mud wraps, balneotherapy (physical therapy, inhalation, irrigation, climatotherapy, drinking cure), gymnastics, and massages.
